“The Workforce behind the Defence Force television campaign highlights the recent major change in thinking about how Australia delivers defence capability. It brings home the significant benefits that will flow to employees and communities from the integration of defence planning with a forward looking approach to industry capability,” John Pollaers, Chairman of the Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council (AAMC) said today.
“The country’s industrial base is a key element of our defence capability. It has the capacity to design, build and sustain and maintain front line defence equipment. It also provides the basis to grow an export focused industry.
“Australia has a growing track record of defence industry innovation and quality that combines the best technology with home grown engineering to operate and protect in the toughest environments.
“The benefits of the technology and capability of the defence industry are not limited to supporting defence. Other sectors of the economy are benefitting from the innovation, skills and global outlook required to succeed in defence industry – including civilian aerospace, agribusiness, mining and ICT.
“The Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council (AAMC), representing the wider advanced manufacturing industry, strongly supports the integration of industry capability into defence planning and promotion of the high quality jobs that go with it,” Mr Pollaers said.
