The ‘M’ Word: Australia’s new global growth opportunity

Australia, like other advanced economies, is wrestling with the problem of where the growth and job opportunities of the future will come from.

The often-overlooked advanced manufacturing sector could provide the answer, writes AAMC executive director Jennifer Conley in a piece for the Australian Institute of International Affairs.

Ms Conley writes that Australians have been late to recognise the need for high value industries, after being protected by the runaway success of the now retreating mining boom.

And while many are continuing to look hopefully to the rising middle classes of Asia, the strength of our advanced manufacturing sector is often overlooked in discussions on the future of our economy, she writes.
