Senior Treasury officials will visit Adelaide today as part of a new nation-wide program showcasing Australian success in advanced manufacturing.
The outreach program, hosted by the CEO-led group, the Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council (AAMC), aims to increase understanding among policymakers and opinion leaders about the opportunities and the variety of experiences of Australia’s globally competitive advanced manufacturers.
Chairman of the AAMC, Mr John Pollaers, applauded the Treasury and Secretary to the Treasury, Mr John Fraser, for the interest and support shown, and a willingness to understand the potential for advanced manufacturing in Australia.
“We know there are about 2500 Australian manufacturers who are not only surviving, but prospering,” Mr Pollaers said. “Many of them are transformative companies taking Australian innovations to global markets.”
These companies are securing their own futures, creating jobs, and helping to underpin a sustainable Australian future, he said.
“Advanced manufacturers face a unique set of challenges – from leveraging the latest thinking in materials and processes, to attracting the required skills and talent, to accessing global supply chains and maintaining and attracting highly-portable Intellectual Property,” Mr Pollaers said.
“We’re keen to encourage a whole-of-government appreciation of the broad sector and to share what it takes to bring ideas to market and to be a commercial success. Our Treasury officials are such an important part of the economic process, and I congratulate them for being engaged.
“I also want to thank all of the companies involved since the program started in June – for so generously sharing their time and expertise.”
The Adelaide program follows AAMC showcase factory tours of Melbourne in June, Sydney in September, and will include Perth in November.
Companies participating in Adelaide include:
Korvest: a leading Australian infrastructure provider to non-residential construction. Korvest provides cable and pipe supports, access systems for large mobile equipment, hydraulic tools and wrenches, and galvanising services, and sells to a global market.
Codan: an international company, founded in South Australia in 1959, that develops rugged and reliable electronic solutions for government, corporate, NGO and consumer markets across the globe. The company has approximately 360 employees located in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UAE and South Africa – and its products reach over 150 countries. Codan’s technologies include radio communications, metal detection and tracking solutions.
Seeley International: Australia’s largest and most awarded air conditioning manufacturer with a history spanning more than 40 years. Renowned for ingenuity and innovation, Seeley International leads the market in the design and manufacture of heating and cooling systems, with award winning brand names including Breezair, Braemar, Climate Wizard, Convair, Coolair and Coolerado.
REDARC Electronics: a technology-based company that designs, manufactures and provides patented, reliable and fully-integrated, portable, vehicular power solutions and customer centric after sales service. The company is based in Lonsdale, South Australia. Being a technology-focused advanced manufacturer, Redarc’s entire business model is based upon innovation, deep customer understanding, targeted marketing and investment in new capability. There were named the Telstra Australian Business Awards, 2014 Australian Business of the Year.
BAE Systems Australia: Australia’s largest defence and security company in 22 locations around the country. In Australia for 60 years, the company has 3500 employees, including 2500 specialist technicians and engineers.
In Melbourne, Treasury and the AAMC visited Textor Technologies, Boeing Aerostructures Australia, ANCA and CSL; while in Sydney, companies visited included ResMed, Cochlear and Quickstep.
